About Reflexology
Reflexology is a non-intrusive complementary therapy which is based on the theory that reflex points on the feet and hands correspond with the internal organs and glands. Pressure on a reflex point can therefore affect those structures. The treatment helps to stimulate the normal function of the organ involved to aid self healing. Reflexology supports the whole person e.g. mind, body and spirit and promotes health and wellbeing. As a holistic therapist I can support your wellbeing but I can not diagnose or cure.

A standard treatment will last for 1 hour but you should allow 1 hour 30 minutes for your first treatment to enable a full client history consultation to be undertaken. Please note fertility and pregnancy maternity treatments are shorter treatments.

If you are under the care of a medical practitioner I will require their consent before I can carry out a treatment on you. I am qualified to work with pregnant women from their first trimester right through to and including labour, but I will need the written consent of your midwife before I can work with you. I have a CRB Enhanced Disclosure and I am happy to work with children but I require parental consent if a child is under 16 years old.

There are many benefits from reflexology:

  • it helps with relaxation
  • it helps improve energy flow and levels
  • it helps to release endorphins (mood lifting hormone)
  • the body is encouraged to heal
  • it gives the feeling of wellbeing
  • it helps to treat ailments to restore health
  • it helps the client cope with their illness
  • it rebalances the whole system therefore restoring homeostasis
  • mental stress is reduced
  • blood and lymphatic circulations are improved
  • it is preventative healthcare to help protect the body from future illness

How will I feel after my treatment
It is important that you drink plenty of water after your treatment to help flush out toxins from the body. Allow some time for rest after a treatment, avoid alcohol, stimulants and only have a light meal.

Occasionally, you may have a reaction to a treatment and experience a mild headache, or feel tired or needing to go to the toilet more often. It is also possible that you may feel more emotional and some symptoms may get slightly worse, this is known as a 'healing reaction' to the treatment. These are normal reactions and should pass within a few days.
